Ascension Island Flights

Important flight information:
  1. All visitors to Ascension Island require entry approval prior to travel. All visitors must complete and return the "Ascension Island Entry Permit" prior to traveling. This form may be downloaded here (PDF format, right click and select "Save Target As...") and should be faxed back to +(247) 6152.
    The Ascension Island entry permit is the equivalent of a travel Visa.
    If you do not have pre approved entry permission you will most likely not receive permission to travel.

    Please submit your entry form at the earliest opportunity to enable immigration procedures to take place prior to the issue of your flight ticket. In normal circumstances please allow a minimum of 28 days.
    Urgent applications should be marked as such and faxed to +(247) 6152.


  2. All visitors must be in possession of a full medical insurance policy which covers medical evacuation by air.
    You must have personal medical insurance before traveling.

    If you are employed on Ascension Island your employer might provide medical insurance on your behalf; please make sure before you travel.

Departure/Arrival times:

From Brize Norton (Oxford) to Ascension Island

Departs at 23.59 BST - Arrives Ascension Island at 07.30 GMT next day.

From Ascension Island to Brize Norton

Depart at 23.20 GMT - Arrives next day at 08.45 BST (except Wednesdays)

Wednesdays depart at 06.00 GMT - Arrives same day at 15.25 BST

Please always check departure flight times with the Airport, 24 hours before the advertised departure times and again 12 hours before the advertised departure times; as flight times are subject to change.

Please note: Only 20 seats per flight are allocated to civilians, therefore advance bookings are essential.

Baggage Allowance:

Baggage allowances on all B Class fares are 27 kilos for adults and children, which includes 4 kilos of hand baggage per person.

Excess baggage cannot be pre-booked and it is not guaranteed that excess baggage will be accepted. This will be at the discretion of the handler at check-in. If excess baggage is accepted, charges will be levied at the prevailing rate.

Cabin baggage - one piece - not exceeding 18x12x9 Inches - 4 kgs

Warning:
As these flights are under the control of the RAF. It cannot be guaranteed that seats will always be available despite a seat confirmation, and that passengers may not be embarked or may be offloaded if technical problems do occur with the aircraft or the required Military payload on that flight precludes a full compliment of passengers being carried.

Please note that the RAF reserve the right to change fares without notice. Even after payment has been received, fare increases by the RAF might affect the final price you pay for your flight. If the RAF increase the fare before your travel date you may have to pay the difference in advance.

Customs Duties:
Arriving passengers may have personal imports, duty free, up to the following amounts per adult:

200 cigarettes OR 250 gms tobacco

1 litre of spirits

2 litres of wine OR 12 x 340 mls beer

Additional charges:
A landing fee of £11.00 is payable on arrival at Ascension Island Wideawake Airfield or at the Police Station for all passengers.

FARES: UK TO ASCENSION AND VICE VERSA
Following confirmation from the MOD and Foreign and Commonwealth Office please be advised that the commercial flight fares on the South Atlantic Air Bridge will increase with effect from 1 August 2008.

Please note this increase is solely as a result of increased MOD charges arising
from increased fuel costs.

4.  Apex Fares   Apply to bookings made and paid for at least 28 days in advance of the flight date.
5. Group Fares      The group fare applies to groups of 6 or more passengers booking together.
6. Student Fare  The Student fare may be offered for persons under the age of 25, studying on a full-time basis in the UK whose parents are contracted to work on Ascension Island, or reside on St Helena.
7. Premium Seating  Premium Seating There is a limited availability for premium seatings on some flights. Further information can be provided on request.

FREIGHT
Standard freights charges will increase from £9.40 per kilo to £10.02 per kilo.                               

PAYMENT
The opening hours of the AIG Booking Office are between 8.30am to 4.30pm Monday to Friday (GMT).

Payment may be made by the following methods:
1.         By credit card/debit card/switch/maestro/solo
(Please note a handling charge may be applied to credit card payments)
2.         Bank transfer (local or UK)
3.         Cash (Locally only)
4.         Cheque (Locally only)

All flights must be paid for in full at the time of confirming a booking. Payments received late will risk losing their booking and/or being charged at standard economy rates.

CANCELLATIONS AND AMENDMENTS
A charge of £25.00 per entry will be levied by AITA for cancellations and amendments made by passengers.

Passengers canceling flight bookings less than 28 days before the flight date will forfeit part of their fare as shown below:
